The effect posture actually has on pain

Contrary to the popular idea that our posture can cause pain, research suggests this is not the case. Yoga is often considered a practice where we learn to “improve” our posture. But what does this really mean? Join Bristol School of Yoga’s Director, Laura Gilmore, as she explores the complexities of posture and whether it can be blamed for our everyday aches and pains.

Laura GILMORE

Senior Yoga Teacher, TrainerPRO

I share an evidence based approach to yoga, based on the current research into body and mind. This is integrated with yogic wisdom and a trauma sensitive framework. My teaching style has evolved over the last 30+ years of practice and 20+ years of teaching. My asana teaching and practice is playful and creative. I weave elements from many traditions together. Yoga has always been based on truth and this gives us ways to integrate movement science, pain science and neurology. I share yoga as a way to move from self-limiting beliefs, and to find greater ease in this life, through acceptance of ourselves and each other. "Laura strikes the balance beautifully between profundity and humour. If you want to experience the true meaning of yoga this is the teacher for you." recent trainee, Lesley-Ann Eaton.
