How do we offer a space for inclusive yoga?

There are now many more adults considered "overweight" than not I the UK and beyond. But many teacher training courses do not cover how to teach those who need more support in poses, or those who live in larger bodies. Here I share some simple methods to include this majority of people to feel safe and welcome. We may also be unsure how to help those who are feeling anxious, or who might have had some traumatic stress. But we can include all these people and more by avoiding certain pitfalls. Here I share some ideas to help more students feel included and seen in your classes. Let's match the teaching of yoga to the philosophy and offer an inclusive, empowering practice!

Instructor

Laura GILMORE

Senior Yoga Teacher, TrainerPRO

I share an evidence based approach to yoga, based on the current research into body and mind. This is integrated with yogic wisdom and a trauma sensitive framework. My teaching style has evolved over the last 30+ years of practice and 20+ years of teaching. My asana teaching and practice is playful and creative. I weave elements from many traditions together. Yoga has always been based on truth and this gives us ways to integrate movement science, pain science and neurology. I share yoga as a way to move from self-limiting beliefs, and to find greater ease in this life, through acceptance of ourselves and each other. "Laura strikes the balance beautifully between profundity and humour. If you want to experience the true meaning of yoga this is the teacher for you." recent trainee, Lesley-Ann Eaton.
